The whole idea for the sizzle&STEM website came from the early days of COVID 19 and the need to create some sense of social contact while we were all locked down. I used Facebook at first to share some recipes… but mostly to create some chatter amongst our friends. Some of our friends are regulars at restaurants we have frequented, industry folks who work at some of these same restaurants, serious amateur cooks, and some people who are afraid to even pick up a knife but in general people who just like to eat.
(You all know what categories you fit into.)
After a while, I started to get messages like “wow you should do a website”. So Lynn and I discussed it and I decided to give it a shot. How it got tied into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is another subject.
Along the journey I realized that if this started because of a community I needed/wanted to keep that whole vibe going. So hence Friends of sizzle&STEM.
The hope is that this is a place where others can share their recipes and the stories behind them. Yes recipes, but also a place to share the stories of folks I know and in the neighborhood who work in making food and maybe even some people who teach the future cooks of the world.
This is going to be a learning experience for all of us. The first recipe I got for this site was from our friend Sheryl and her uncle’s Firehouse Ribs. We both had to figure out how to write a story that was a recipe. In the end its just like sitting around the table over a meal and reminiscing about how the food came to be.
I also hope to add some stories from our local restaurateurs, bakers, and others that keep us fed.
I would love to hear from the folks that frequent this site. If you want to submit a favorite recipe and the story behind it, please subscribe to the site and reach out. Building community is our goal.
